•  Nitrous Oxide's chemical designator is N2O, which means its molecule has two nitrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. So why is this important. Because one of the ways to increase power in an engine is to add oxygen and additional fuel. Air contains 21% oxygen while nitrous oxide contains 33%. When this combines with gasoline it produces carbon dioxide and water vapor, which in turn expand and exert pressure on the pistons. So a NOS installation will give you a burst of power.
• There is a second and even more important way that a NOS can improve performance. This is because colder air is denser and can carry more oxygen. NOS when it vaporizes provides a significant cooling effect on the air coming into your engine. So the net result is more instant power via NOS.

•  NOS systems that you typically find on a car contain a bottle of Nitrous Oxide that has been compressed into a liquid, and various components that allow this to be lead to the engine. You would press a button and get an injection of NOS into your engine.

•  Does NOS increase horsepower significantly. It sure can. It is possible to increase horsepower by up to 600 percent. Would you want to do that? Not if you want to keep your engine very long. A more realistic number using NOS would be an increase in the range of 50 to 100% peak.
