Would you like to use the same disc brakes as found on Maserati, Ferrari and Mersades? If you would the answer is Brembo brakes. They make brakes for applications from race cars, exotic cars, standard street vehicles and commercial applications. They are recognized world wide for their quality products.

Even if your car did not come with a set  you can still add Brembo's parts or a complete system, and know you are running with one of the finest products availaible. There is a wide selection of after market Honda Accord brakes from the earliest 1976 models through 2006.

One of the newest features they offer brakes is their Easy Check system to determine how worn are the brake discs. Two holes of unequal depth are made in the flat surface of the disc. If both are visible the disc is not worn down. If only one is visible, then the disc is almost worn down to replacement time.

There are a variety of different kinds of discs brakes that are available. Not all types are available for all cars however,

  • In the simplest brakes, the disc or rotor is made out of cast iron. It is a superior system to the drum brake system that it replaced. Under repeated stops or a very long brake application, like braking on a long down hill road, the disc can heat up too much. This heat can cause your brakes to begin to fade and you will lose some braking capability.

  • To reduce the heat build up, disc brakes were created with internal fins and the brake disc is called ventilated. This worked much better in fighting brake fade. Cars like Ferrari came standard with ventilated disc brakes.
  • In an attempt to reduce fading even more, some discs brakes come with pre drilled holes in them, and are called cross drilled disc brakes. The holes help the disc brake to shed heat even more.
  • Another technique was to cut slots in the surface of the brake disc face. These slots removed a build up of both heat and gases produced by hard braking.
  • The last combination was a disc brake that had both holes and slots.

The downside of either drilling holes or cutting slots is that you may weaken the disc. Small cracks  can develop  and turn into a major problem. Slotted rotors can also wear out your brake pads faster, as they increase the gripping of the pad against the disc rotor.

So select the best disc brakes designed for the type of driving you do.
