Different Accord NOS Systems
There are a variety of different types of Nitrous Oxide Systems (NOS) for your Accord. The two main categories for your are called dry and wet. Different systems deliver power in slightly different ways.
- All NOS start with the nitrous as fluid. The dry NOS system has extra fuel which is introduced through the fuel injectors. This keeps the manifold dry of fuel, hence the name. The amount of fuel for a NOS can be increased in two ways.
- One way is by increasing the pressure in the fuel injection system. The other NOS system approach is to modify the vehicle's computer to increase the time the fuel injectors remain open. If the NOS sprays nitrous past the mass airflow sensor, it will send a signal to the computer system that it sees colder denser air. The computer system in turn will send more fuel into the engine. Now there is extra oxygen from the NOS and extra fuel from the fuel system and you get more power.
- The second major system is a wet NOS system. Under this NOS system approach there are four different sub systems. The first system is called a wet single point system. It mixes the fuel and nitrous together, causing the upper intake to become wet with fuel. The newer NOS systems are some of the simplest to install. Fuel is pulled via the Schrader valve on the fuel rail. This valve is usually used as a fuel test port. By doing this the plumbing and using a wet nitrous kit the system installation is simplified.
- Another approach is the wet direct port system. This introduces both nitrous and fuel directly into each intake port. This system has several nozzles going to each cylinder. This is the most complex and expensive system, as it requires significant modifications to the engine.
- A third system is called a plenum bar NOS system. This consists of spraybars that are installed inside of the plenums of the intake manifold. It is usually used in multi-stage systems. The last type is a propane or CNG system, which combines nitrous with a gaseous fuel such as propane or compressed natural gas. This raises the octane level of the mixture and lessens the risk of knocking.
